Reflection:
In the article “After Fierce Lobbying, Treasury Sets Rules for Billions in Hydrogen Subsidies,” journalist Brad Plumer reports on finalized rules for hydrogen subsidies on the necessary criteria for hydrogen-producing companies to receive large amounts of money through tax credits as an incentive for reducing the current rate of climate change. Especially as the absence of a finalized plan has so far contributed to a relatively small amount of investments, these regulations from the Biden administration make it easier for companies deciding how they want to take on the hydrogen project. Hydrogen can help decarbonize and its production process can determine whether the hydrogen outcome in each case is positively contributing to the environment, according to the article. Along with this complex process in determining hydrogen’s impact on a production-by-production basis, the article discusses how there are parts that need assessments.
Wow. Imagine all those spent to make these finalized rules. Imagine all those discussions. All those studies. All that analysis. All that energy (pun unintended) in negotiating, negotiating, negotiating then finally being able to have these ready regulations. I honestly respect and admire those who dedicate their lives for a cause like climate change.
