Reflection:
I think that society tends to be so wrapped up in new innovations. New strides in AI. New strides in more efficient and sustainable alternatives to plastic. And though these new innovations are helpful in that they help people discover new avenues and methods for improvement, it seems to be too easy to forget to focus on what is in front of us. For example, why do I have these ambitious thoughts and goals yet fall short of what I set for myself, like finishing the things I set myself to do for the day? Why do we as humans want so much?
This article discusses climate-based architecture and how Martha Schwartz Partners develops landscapes that promote biodiversity and climate change mitigation. From their Beijing Beiqijia Technology Business District to the Paris Place de la République, Martha Schwartz Partners promotes climate-related health in a way that is popular or appealing to local residents, according to the article.
A component of the article that I really enjoyed reading about was the Linear Urban Forest, a project that involves planting a Miyawaki forest in empty streets in the future. The part about the Linear Urban Forest that caught my attention most was how the plan takes future technology into account. I'm used to hearing and reading about climate-related plans that take future climate impacts into account, but future technology is a unique angle that the Martha Schwartz Partners is planning to develop architecture in.
Here is the Martha Schwartz Partners website, which includes descriptions of their projects so far: https://msp.world/projects?offset=1670900520853&reversePaginate=true
