Reflection:
In the article “Cuts to National Weather Service Leave Forecasters Reeling,” journalists Camille Baker and Amy Graff report on the Trump administration's act of removing federal employees from their positions, including National Weather Service workers who provide predictions and up-to-date information on natural disasters and weather conditions. Many with a connection to the field, from a television meteorologist to a climate scientist, condemned the administration’s move by noting, for example, the importance and high skill levels of the workers who no longer hold these positions.
Just how long will these impacts last? I feel like society tends to think and focus on short-term impacts but what about the really long-term ones?
