In the article “Musk Believes in Global Warming. Trump Doesn’t. Will That Change?,” journalist Brad Plumer discusses the variation of interests that has especially come into the public spotlight after Trump’s re-election this year, specifically regarding climate change, Elon Musk, and the president-elect. In the article, Plumer discusses how, while Trump has outwardly shown his desire to drill more fossil fuels, Musk has publicly shown his belief and concern over climate change. Especially as the two men are close, this conflict of interest makes it more uncertain whether the President-elect will act so decisively against climate change.
This article makes me more hopeful because it adds more nuance about how the Trump administration may approach climate change. I am still very concerned about what the next four years will bring in terms of environmental health, but I hope to see some acceptance about climate change, which is something that there’s so much evidence of. Maybe this will lead to some more bipartisanship and open up more discussion across the political aisles?
