Reflection:

The article “Your Home Is Vulnerable to Extreme Weather. Here’s How to Protect It.” discusses recommended tools and resources for protecting one’s home from natural disasters. Flooding insurance, including for those who are renting, as well as ensuring to minimize projectiles in the home. For fire-prone regions, the article recommends that homes use roof coverings that are not combustible and sprinklers as back-ups for fire hydrants.

I’m really thankful that there’s a resource like this article whose purpose is to help raise awareness and inform people about how they and their homes can stay safe. Especially with the fires recently, I think the fear of losing one’s home and loved ones through natural disasters has become more “tangible” of a reality to the general public, so this article—and ones similar to it—provide hope regarding the willingness to help that seems to be the intention behind these pieces. For example, I didn’t know that there were even items like noncombustible roof coverings.
